Learn how to cultivate a thriving garden without the need for a tractor in our Gardening 101: Gardening Without a Tractor – Tools and Techniques for In-Ground Gardens workshop at The Farm at Millican Reserve! Whether you’re managing a small backyard plot or an intensive market garden, this workshop covers practical hand tools and techniques that make gardening efficient and effective.
In this hands-on session, participants will explore:
- Weeding Techniques & Tools:
- Long-handled hoes, wire weeders, tine weeders, and wheel hoes
- Advanced weed control with flame weeders
- Preventative methods like solarization and landscape fabric
- Planting Methods:
- Dibblers, push seeders, Plant N Stand, drill augers, and bed rollers for precise planting
- Bed Preparation & Maintenance:
- Using broad forks, wheel hoe disc attachments, and rakes to establish healthy planting beds
Gain hands-on experience with each tool and technique to discover how to garden more efficiently while maintaining soil health and minimizing labor. This class is perfect for home gardeners, market growers, and anyone interested in low-impact, high-yield gardening methods.

Parking
Please use the Farm Entrance to Millican Reserve (19851 FM 2154). There is designated parking in the grassy area just before the Farm. You MAY NOT PROCEED past the Farm area in your vehicle.
