Howdy All! As some of you might have seen on our social media outlets, I recently returned to a place very close to my heart – The Farm at Millican Reserve. It’s been over a year since I’ve set foot on the Farm, and I am thrilled to share the exciting journey we’ve embarked upon once again.
Recent Developments: Our first order of business was to breathe life back into the soil. In one of our four main plots, we’ve sowed a robust cover crop, setting the stage for a bountiful season. Out in our three other plots, it’s a sight to behold as potatoes, beans, various squash, watermelons, and corn have sprung up, the beginning brushes of paint to set the landscape in shades of vibrant green.
Greenhouse Nurture: Inside the nurturing walls of our greenhouse, a new life is emerging. We’ve started summer squash, cantaloupe, cucumber, an assortment of flowers, peppers, eggplant, and green onions. A highlight of this month was transplanting tomatoes into our greenhouse beds. They’re growing incredibly fast and have started putting on flowers in anticipation of the warmer weather.
Future Plans: Looking ahead, there’s so much more in store. We’re gearing up to relaunch our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, reconnecting our farm’s produce with your tables. Also on the horizon are new workshops, classes, and demonstrations – all designed to bring our community closer to the wonders of farming. And, let’s not forget the community garden we’re planning to build next to our production plots. This will be a space for learning, growing, and sharing the joy of farming together.
Every day at the Farm at Millican Reserve is a step towards a greener, more sustainable future. I am filled with hope and enthusiasm for what lies ahead and I can’t wait to share each milestone with you.
